Join us at PROXY to for a special screening and live DJ set exploring the underground cumbia music culture across Mexico and the United States!

For the first time in San Francisco, the feature documentary Kumbia Net: Un Estilo Bien Diferente will bring the sounds and stories of the mysterious kumbia crew to the big screen. A sensorial road movie through underground cumbia in Mexico and the U.S., expect to hear the sounds and stories of cumbia Poblana, kumbia wepa, Kumbia Obscura, and cumbia from Monterrey, all through the lens of the producers and artists of the Kumbia Net collective.

Also featuring the U.S. premiere of the short documentary Musas USA. This doc depicts the members of Musas Sonideras, a collective of sound system deejays that originated in Mexico City in 2017. In recent years, a U.S. chapter with sonideras in Chicago, Washington, and L.A. has gained momentum. Musas USA portrays the hardships and triumphs of women building community through sound system culture.

Turbo Sonidero, co-founder of Kumbia Net, architect of the Kumbia Obscura sound, and proud S.F. resident will be in person for a post screening talk with director Space Primo moderated by Beto Salazar of Disco Movil Salazar.
